The wholly-owned awarding body of the British Institute of Innkeeping, BIIAB offers a wide selection of qualifications, including qualifications for staff development, qualifications for licensing, qualifications for management development and qualifications for new licensed retail managers, all of them providing solutions to specific market requirements, supporting careers in licensed retail and delivering significant business benefits. As of 2005, the British Institute of Innkeeping Awarding Body, accredited nationally by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, processed more than 190,000 examination entries.
Whether you are an experienced licensed retailer or completely new to the sector, BIIAB offers a variety of qualifications, designed specifically for licensed retail. These qualifications aim at providing solutions to diverse market requirements and delivering business benefits.
Since 1994, BIIAB has processed nearly 805,000 qualifications and approved over 1,000 venues to deliver training and examinations throughout the United Kingdom. One of its numerous qualifications, the BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing is designed specifically for licensed retail employees to demonstrate commitment to the responsible alcohol retailing. Thus, the qualification ensures basic knowledge and understanding of responsibilities faced by alcohol retailers.
Those completing the qualification are enabled to act in compliance with the law for the designated premises supervisor support. The BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing also offers protection to licensed premises operators, since it includes three mandatory questions ensuring that all candidates understand legislation regarding serving drunk persons and underage sales.
The qualification covers different aspects, including the nature of alcohol and impact it exerts on the human body; licensing law concerning children's protection; the relation of social responsibilities to the retail sales of alcohol; and adoption of appropriate strategies to eliminate or prevent alcohol-related crimes and conflicts. This qualification is designed for persons involved in the alcohol sale, including supermarket cashiers, bar staff, waiters and waitresses and licensed shop cashiers in such licensed premises as bars, pubs, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, licensed shops, convenience stores and entertainment venues.
Other qualifications available from the British Institute of Innkeeping Awarding Body include BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal License Holders, accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and approved by Government. It was designed to meet the Licensing Act's statutory requirements and covers the following aspects: the application process for the personal license; the functions and responsibilities of licensing authorities within the framework of licensing objectives; the premises license; the purpose and content of operating schedules; unauthorized licensable activities; entry rights to licensed premises; the prohibitions for the alcohol sales; and the protection of children from harm.
